Open Question: istsvc, where and how is this exe hiding?

I know it's spyware, MsConfig puts the file as being in program files, but checking program files I don't see the folder. I have the settings so that hidden files are visible. If possible, I'd enjoy to be able to do this manually, or at least know how the files are hidden if nothing else. I'm currently running windows XP. I've taken the file off of startup, but I just need to know how to get rid of permanently now. Any ideas?

Resolved Question: Would performing startup repair fix my DLL error problems?

I save getting DLL error message when I begin up and messages save popping up telling this program has stopped working and that program has stopped working; including internet explorer and Firefox. Would this step fix it?

Open Question: laptop mousepad side scrolling thing?

i ran msconfig and turned off all startup and background applications from running when i turn my computer on...so now the side thing on my cursor pad (where you can put your finger against the edge of the pad and go up/down and side to side, and it would make the scrollbars on the internet pages go up and down or side to side) has been deactivated, and i dont know what the application is called, or else i would just go back into msconfig and turn it on. does anybody know the name?

Open Question: Is there a way to startup my computer with no applications OR services except the ones needed for my game?

Hi, I was wondering how to maximize my computer for the funcion of playing my single player game Neverwinter Nights 2. I know that Windows has many functions and applications working in the background that have nothing to do with my game and eat up RAM and resources. What I am asking is for a "gaming" mode where I begin my Windows Vista house Premium with only gaming related software on and with all other application off, so I can play NWN2 with the computer's maximum resources available. no you cannot go online with wireless internet. u can go online without that startup disk but u cannot go online without that internet cabal. ps2 doesnot support wireless internet.

Resolved Question: Boot Device Not Found?

Hey guys, I was running Windows 2000 Professional on a Dell Pentium III laptop, and I put the thing into hibernation. I've hibernated the machine countless times, although sometimes it stops with a discolored screen. This time, however the computer booted up with a completely blank screen. I waited for a few minutes, and then manually rebooted it. What happened next was that Windows proceeded to the startup screen, when the BSOD came up, saying that there was no boot device found. Further reboots yielded nothing. Now, I'm a little confused - isn't Windows starting up from the hard drive? If so, why is the computer refusing to begin up? Is there any way, short of re-installing Windows, to begin the computer up again?

Open Question: I infected myself with an ASM application full of code (not a virus, but acts like one), anyone know how to...

...remove this without formatting my hard drive or re-installing Windows Vista Ultimate (free) Edition - I won a digital download from download.microsoft.com. Task scheduler and Task Engine and if task manager loads before 30 seconds of logon then it crashes too. I re-launch Task Manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del and launch explorer.exe. My system crashes when launching the ASM editor, FASMW.exe. Anyone had they alike problem and/or solved it.

Open Question: Internet availability at startup?

It's becoming more regular the older my computer becomes; at startup sometimes, internet just doesn't turn on - fast loading, but no internet (I do scans, with no outcome). So I eventually restart the computer and it works again - what is going on? Sometimes internet cuts out while I'm using it and I have to restart in the hope it's not malware breaking the computer down.

Open Question: I'm looking for software that will reset settings upon startup preventing kids from changing settings? Help!

I have two children that share a pc and they sometimes delete icons, drag the task bar to a different location or accidentally change settings. I'm basically looking for some software that will capture the settings I choose and then reset itself upon restart so they can begin the next day clean. Almost a ground hogs day movie software. Open Question: keep running out of memory?

I have 3 gig of ram and my computer keeps telling I’ve jog out of memory the issue mostly seems to be with print screen I thought I solved the problem by increasing my page files but it started to happen again. I’ve even opened up bios and took a see nothing out the ordinary there I’ve even tried ram booster but if anything it’s made the available ram even worse. I have even tried msconfig and turned off some of the startup items. I have also cancelled some processes and finally I’ve created a 3gb switch and it still does it. Any one got any advice thx

Open Question: Help making bittorrent game run (not illegal)?

I am trying to download a game that I already bought but the CD is old and freaks out and won't let me install it again. The tech support wont help because its old. It came in a file with 2 DVD folders. In Folder DVD2 it has a program files folder that I have already put into my program files. It has an icon that is an ico file so I can't mount it. It has an .exe file called DVDCheck but that doesn't do anything when I click it. It has a system information titled autorun that when clicked has text telling that says open=DVDCheck.exe Icon=nameoficon.ico There is also a F47 file called rld-vip2.r47. Also there is another folder in DVD2 called Crack which has a Startup Application that doesn't do anything. Folder DVD1 has 4 files. An R55, R57, R60, and R64 all titled respectively. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? I REALLY wanna play this game!!

Open Question: Slow Windows Vista Startup- New Computer?

I just got a new HP Pavillion dv6700 Laptop with a 2.4GHz AMD Turion Dual-Core processor and 3GB ram, 256MB NVidia GeForce 8400M GS etc. and have disabled all startup programs and services except my antivirus(AVG) and some necessary services enjoy spoolsv.exe for printer spooling and main functionality. It still takes above 30 seconds to go from the loading bar boot-screen to the stupid winows animation of the orb thing before the login screen is displayed. Windows xp starts on this computer and is fully logged in, in less than 25 seconds with programs in the startup folder. What gives? This computer was rated in the 98th percentile on pcpitstop.com for performance, so it should begin up just as quickly right? Does anyone have any ideas to make it begin faster? By the way, the bottleneck is not the hard drive... the light doesnt stay on while it is waiting. Neither is the processor... 2.4GHZ is way enough. It just seems to sit there before displaying the login screen. No, as soon as i swipe my finger on the fingerprint reader to login, it is fully loaded in 5 to 7 seconds, and after that the computer isn't slow at all. It just seems to be the time from the boot screen to the animation. Response to second reply: Thanks but i tried that already and disabled everything. Those programs don't begin up right after the boot screen though, so the startup tab is irrelevant. Services are the only thing that execute before login. I do have LoJack on this laptop but it does not use any resources(the process uses enjoy 256k and .001% cpu). Yes, vista seems to be VERY heavy. My itanium server running the 64-bit version only boots in enjoy 10 seconds after the POST. Yeah, all the aero stuff and new features including the indexing stuff is disabled and it is in the windows classic theme. and i shrunk the system restore to 5gb usage(it used to be 25gb). It's also defragged etc and there are no junk files whatsoever. The only thing is i have some very large programs on here, enjoy all version of autodesk AutoCAD and maya, viz render and 3dsMAX. Those programs have a whole lot of registry entries(10,000+), but that still shouldnt bog down the system. Yes, reply #5 was very helpful, that CD/DVD comment reminded me of my external hard drive. After i removed it, the time was cut down from 30 seconds to 17. That seems better. Thanks

Open Question: Remote Desktop suddenly doesn't work?

I use remote desktop all the time and today when I click on the shortcut nothing happens. I tried typing in mstsc.exe and nothing happens. I go to windows/system32/mstsc.exe and nothing happens. When I opened my task manager I had to kill, about ten processes of mstsc.exe. I rebooted and still nothing. In my Services, I think I have everything started and the startup type set to automatic. I can remote into my computer but I can no longer use the mstsc.exe to remote into a server or another person's computer. I am an administrator and no group policy has been changed. I am using XP Professional. I would love to have some help with this. Have you seen it before?

OK I just downloaded and burned a iso of ubuntu on a disk. The thing is I have windows xp and 1 partition 80 gig hard drive dedicated to xp. I have FileZilla version 3.0.9.3 (the latest as of this morning). Does anyone know how to configure the software to automatically connect to a site upon startup. I have the site login information stored in Site Manager, I just can't find an option to set a site to begin automatically at startup. Thanks in advance. Open Question: How to I make my USB card work?

I just got a brand new DELL that's 'smokin' fast! I had an old DELL that I put a USB 2.0 card in a few years back. I thought I could take it out and put it into the new computer. I did but nothing popped up / it didn't read or work as I tried hooking the keyboard and mouse into it. Anyway, I don't believe it came with any startup disc and if it did, I don't have it. Open Question: PC freezing at startup- any suggestions ?

I have a PC that's I suppose about 3 years old now. As far as I can recall it's an AMD 3200. It's running windows xp. turned it on earlier today and it's not getting past the initial screen (the one where it tells me the bios details and tells me what keys to hit to either enter setup or change boot priorities). No error messages and no beeps from motherboard to hint what might be wrong. I've had a see in case and all appears in order to my untrained eye - fans running fine, etc. Without anything to indicate likely source of problem I've no idea where to begin. I don't have spare parts that I can use to swap in and out to determine any faulty hardware. Any suggestions as to likely cause or how to go about fixing please ? Added - sorry, should have said - the keys for setup or boot priority do nothing. So I can't get to change any startup programs or any settings generally on the pc. And I've tried it on / off a few times.

Open Question: My monitor won't turn on!?

Hello, I have a monitor that is usually slow at startup. Requires waiting 2 minutes untill a large bump is heard, which the monitor then shows the screen. Today, I found it won't go on at all. All things plugged in, and it has done this before, I just forgot how to fix it. I've unplugged and replugged, haven't worked. Any suggestions? The power light doesn't go green at all. Oh, just revently it stopped with the bumping noise, so I wouldn't think it's THAT old. It's been around since 2005-2006

I turn the computer on and it shows the black XP startup screen and then pauses and does nothing for about a minute and then the screen turns blue and this is what I get...
